LocalED is delighted to share Dame Christine Gilbert’s success in achieving great publicity for Camden Learning’s innovative work on transforming school reports. An in-depth report by Branwen Jeffreys, the BBC’s lead education correspondent ran last week.

Camden Learning, a co-pilot for LocalED’s Pilot 3 initiative on new models of accountability, took centre stage in the coverage. However, the invaluable contributions of Pilot 3 teams in Sheffield and Milton Keynes were also recognised.

Interviews with Christine, Stephen Betts (from Learn Sheffield), and David Balderstone (from Milton Keynes Education Partnership) were featured across BBC One’s lunchtime news, radio, and TV throughout the day.

What resonated

A key highlight of the media coverage is the understanding and empathy for some key central messages, including:

  1. The Department for Education needs to prioritise what parents and carers truly want—up-to-date, relevant insights into their children’s schools.
  2. Parents and carers want information that goes beyond the limitations of Ofsted’s four-year cycle, offering a real-time feel for their school’s environment and performance.
  3. Locality-based organisations are uniquely positioned to provide quality-assured and meaningful data and information.
