The development of Combined Authorities has been somewhat overlooked as a crucial aspect of local governance in discussions regarding the enhancement of statutory education. Under Michael Gove, significant powers have been devolved to 13 Combined Authorities (CAs), encompassing over 50% of the population. There are plans to extend this framework to cover an additional 20% and eventually the entire country, a vision also shared by the Labour Party. The North of Tyne Combined Authority serves as a notable example, demonstrating how collaborative efforts between Combined Authorities and Local Authorities can effectively support children, families, schools, and Trusts.
A recent presentation to the LocalEd Steering Group highlighted the current opportunities and the potential outcomes achievable through enhanced collaborative working within Combined Authorities. You can view that presentation here.
